Paddle Plant Care

The Paddle Plant is a lovely succulent which in the right conditions can form brightly coloured grayish-green circular leaves with red tips and fragrant yellow flowers.

It requires minimal care but be cautious about light levels. Intense sunlight can burn the tips of the leaves. Place pots in partial sun to light shade areas for healthier looking leaves.

The flowering varieties are highly rewarding for their colourful and long-lasting flowers. They prefer bright, sunny locations, especially in the growing season. The Paddle Plant requires minimal watering and is considered to be drought-tolerant. Be sure to allow the top inch of the soil or potting medium to dry out before watering in the warmer months. During its growth season, liquid fertilizer can be applied to the soil on a monthly basis. The plant will be in its rest phase in the winter months, so you should water half as often.

These plants require repotting every few years. When repotting, take additional care in handling as the leaves are somewhat brittle and can snap easily. Clay pots work exceptionally well for planting Kalanchoes. Ensure pots can drain well, and saucers can empty easily.

This plant is toxic if ingested by people or pets.
